a mid century birthday celebration
suzann celebrated her 55th birthday surrounded by cocktails, color, and a vintage inspired atmosphere that felt both playful and timeless. the evening was designed to reflect the spirit of mid century entertaining where gathering around beautiful food, thoughtful details, and great company takes center stage.
we partnered with one off hospitality to create a menu that felt perfectly aligned with the era. guests were welcomed with classic cocktails including martinis, grasshoppers, and manhattans, setting the tone for a night that leaned fully into mid century charm. the food followed suit with a menu of charcuterie and crudite, deviled eggs, short rib sliders, passed chorizo stuffed dates, and fresh ceviche. traditional relish trays and cocktail style appetizers kept guests mingling and grazing throughout the evening.
the details were where the design truly came to life. authentic vintage accessories and glassware were layered throughout the space, creating a setting that felt collected and nostalgic rather than overly styled. each piece added character and helped tell the story of the era we were drawing inspiration from.
florals by ordinary seed brought beautiful color and movement to the tables, tying together the vintage palette and adding a fresh, celebratory energy to the room. the arrangements balanced the retro inspiration with a modern sensibility, making the entire space feel vibrant and inviting.
from the cocktails to the styling, every element worked together to create a birthday celebration that felt joyful, personal, and full of mid century charm. it was the kind of evening where the details mattered, the drinks kept flowing, and guests lingered a little longer around the table. ✨
the flat lay: setting the tone
before every event comes to life, we like to begin with a visual moment that captures the entire vision. creating a flat lay has become a tradition in our studio and serves as a kind of moodboard for the event ahead. it allows us to gather the elements that will shape the atmosphere and see how everything comes together before guests ever walk through the door.
for suzann’s mid century inspired birthday celebration, the flat lay was filled with color, texture, and playful vintage details. glassware, cocktail accessories, paper goods, and styling pieces were layered together to reflect the energy of the evening. bold pinks, warm amber tones, and retro patterns hinted at the vibrant cocktail party that was to come.
pieces like vintage cocktail glasses, swizzle sticks, barware, and mid century inspired accessories helped tell the story of the design direction. each object may seem small on its own, but together they create a visual snapshot of the event’s personality.
these flat lays help guide our design process and give our team a moment to step back and see the event as a whole. they capture the feeling we are trying to create long before the tables are set and the first cocktail is poured.
for us, it is one of the most exciting parts of the process. a simple collage of objects that quietly reveals the mood of the celebration ahead.
